Ismo from Finland

Hello everybody!

I`m 45 years old guy from Scandinavian country Finland. My restoration project start few years ago, when I heard that my first motocross bike is “alive”. I bought it back. So it is special feeling to restore it, because bike is the same bike what I have had.

Restoration work took about three years. In the year of 1980 here in finland importer sold about less than 100 bikes(Finland: 5 million people), so you understand how difficult is get the parts. But in autumn year 2007 I got it ready. I drive on it only one race in a year.(photo)

More photos is on the “bikepics” websites. My e-mail is there too. I`m glad if you write things about YZ to me, or anything else from any country.

It is one guy which I have to thank you, is John Nicholas: who have helped me in many information, and makes web-sites.

My restoration project was by definition an oxymoron – difficult/pleasure. I truly enjoyed cleaning and replacing every item on the bike as difficult and perplexing as some of the situations were. Once the bike was finished and it started on the third kick, I have to be honest it felt great. For every difficult situation that came up, there was always a solution out there to fix it. A huge percentage of the work I did on the bike closely followed John’s outline of how to’s and parts to buy and replace. If you follow his guide, most of the work will be much easier to accomplish. Much thanks to John!

“Purchased off of ebay for $400.00. Upon tear down, the cylinder had Keith Bowens name engraved on the top fin. It was obvious that it had a serious port job and Eric Gorr confirmed this when he gave it a fresh bore.

The bike includes all new plastic from DC Plastic, new Terry Cables, all new bearings, seals and bushings. Seat cover and a 1994 throttle assmb. and 2004 foot pegs. The bike started on the thrid kick and sounds great. The silencer is off of a 1984 YZ 125 and fits fine with just a little help from a vice.

This bike was very special as it was the last year for the air cooled YZ 125 and a huge step from the 1979. It was one of my favorite race bikes in the day. The look is clasic YZ and screams “dirt bike”. Al Burke

John, this is an excellent job you’ve done on the website and the cd. Oh yea, the motorcycle too. You certainly spared no expense there! I’m certain you will have a very competitive 125. Now it is time to get your old ass saddled up to have some fun!

Thanks for the parts, the quick responses, the excellent packing job, and the follow-up. First class all the way. As an 8 year vintage veteran I can tell you that this hobby you’ve chosen will lead to MORE bikes, more road trips, more friends, more expenditures, and more fun. I hope you are up to the task.

John, thanks for the parts, fast shipping great service. Also great site. You beat me to the punch. Your step by step is great and I even picked up a few tricks along the way! I have all the parts for my bike and took your advise and sent my cylinder to Eric Gorr, awaiting it’s return. Thanks again. P.S. watch that bike, your not the same kid from 26 years ago!
