On August 14th & 15th the bike was displayed as part of the Legends and Heroes Tour at the Unadilla Pro National. Over the course of the two days I had the opportunity to speak to quite a few folks. The biggest compliment about the bike was that no one thought that it was a race machine!

The Thursday before the show I spent about half a day cleaning and polishing the bike. It is simply amazing what a little time and elbow grease will do. The bike sparkled in the sun, so the time was well spent.

Yesterday (August 23rd) I shot a bunch of photos and they are all posted below. Not bad for a machine that was raced and ridden!

For those eagle eyed viewers out there, yes there is a light coating of dust on parts of the bike, that is from Unadilla. Believe it or not they had to water the pit roads to keep the dust down!

As much as it pains me to do so, I must sell my bike.

In this site you have read all about what has gone into this awesome machine. What has changed since the bike was completed?

It has been raced a total of three times. The bike is very fast, handles great and still looks awesome. See the photos below.

The only issue is that the tank stickers are curling on the edges, otherwise it looks EXACTLY like it does in the photos below.

Now for the price…. if you have read this site you know that I have invested over $5,000 in parts to build this bike, that does not take into account all of the countless hours of labor. But I need to sell the bike.

Here’s the deal. I will sell this bike to the first person that makes a REASONABLE offer for it. Please do not send any low ball offers. I will accept a reasonable price for the bike but will not give it away. I have a price in mind, meet that and the bike is yours.

The purchaser of the bike will have to pay for all shipping to their location. Although I will deliver the bike to any place within 60 miles of my home (Poughkeepsie, NY) at no charge.

Paypal or Cash only. No Trades.

Please send your offer or additional questions to johnnicholas@hvc.rr.com

Thank you.

One of our readers wrote asking which silencer was used in building Project YZ. I really thought that I had listed it someplace on the site. But I guess I just forgot that part! Sorry about that.

The silencer that I used was a DG Aluminum Silencer from a 1984 / 1985 YZ125. It is DG part number 21-4111 and I purchased mine from a company called Dirt Overstock.

In order to install this silencer on the bike it requires all the fitting pieces from the 1984 bike and the long part of the silencer needs to be bent slightly. I also added a small piece of rubber between the silencer and the frame.

It appears that Dirt Overstock has some kind of licensing agreement with DG to make more when they run out. From the note I received I believe that the magic number is 15 orders before they will make more.

Here is the web address for the silencer http://dirtoverstock.com/detail.aspx?ID=217

If you need to buy one of these silencers for you YZ, it would be a good idea to leave a comment here. This might help get enough people together to buy the 15 needed to get them to build them.

Good Luck!

I really just want to get the site up as it was before it was deleted, then I can start making changes. Boy does it take a long to start over.

The site is now completely back up on the web. There will be updates made when I have some spare time to do so.

I have some new user YZ photos from a racer in Finland, they are awesome. He sent over a short story about his rebuild. It is coming soon. I promise.

Thanks,
